In July 2003 our family spent the week in Phoenix, AZ.  We knew it would be HOT, but little did we know that the day after we arrived, Phoenix would set an ALL-TIME record for the highest LOW temperature for one day.  The LOW was 96 degrees!  (The HIGH was just 117, not enough to set a record!)  We did a little sightseeing, but most of our time was IN THE WATER!

We visited Montezuma's Castle, built by cliffdwellers around 1100AD.  Also nearby we saw Montezuma's Well, a huge sinkhole that produces a sudden surprise of water and greenery in the desert.

The next stop before Sedona was The Chapel of the Holy Cross,  built right into the hillside.

The strange, red rock formations begin to appear as you reach Sedona, and everyone finds different images in their shapes.  In one mountainside, we all saw the image of an eagle!

Finally we reached our destination, Slide Rock State Park, a 30 foot long water slide naturally cut into the rocks of the creekbed by the rushing 65 degree spring water.  By the time we arrived, the park gate was closed, but we parked down the road and hiked in.  It was really COLD, but worth the trip!
